About Derek
Derek was brought up on a mixed family farm in Alford, Aberdeenshire, where pigs, broilers, suckler cows, sheep and arable crops sparked his early passion for agriculture. He then went to study NC Agriculture at Clintertly Agricultural College - now a part of North East Scotland College.
After graduating, Derek managed a local mixed arable unit for eight years before stepping into the role of Breeding Company Manager at Grampian Country Foods. He later joined Harbro, initially as a Feed Specialist covering Scotland and parts of Yorkshire, before progressing to Commodities Desk Manager after a short break.
In 2022, Derek brought his wealth of knowledge and experience to McCreath Simpson & Prentice as a Farm Trader. He now operates in the Donside, Deeside and Dundee trading areas, where he enjoys being part of a close-knit team.
Outside of work, Derek previously coached his local football club, Alford Football Club, for 15 years. These days, he enjoys spending quality time with his family - especially his grandson, who he's always happy to find an excuse to visit!
