About Gary
After studying Agriculture at SAC Aberdeen, Gary gained an HND followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Farm Business Organisation & Management (Dip FBOM), graduating in 1992.
Before and after graduating, Gary worked on arable farms, involved principally in cereal and potato production.
In 1992, he joined Mearns & Angus Machinery Ring (now Ringlink) as Assistant Manager. In 1995, he moved to John Guthrie Ltd, a family grain merchanting business in Forfar and became a director in 2004.
When John Guthrie Ltd was acquired by Simpsons Malt Ltd in 2011, Gary joined the McCreath Simpson & Prentice team as a Farm Trader and has since enjoyed working as part of a growing and forward-thinking team. In 2012, he attained his FACTS qualification, enabling him to advise customers on fertiliser use.
Gary's main role is procuring malting barley for the company's malting sites, as well as trading other cereals, inputs and feedstuffs, servicing his customer base between farm visits and the office.
Away from work, Gary enjoys family time with his wife and two daughters, watching rugby union, working on his vintage tractor and keeping his garden tidy!
