David Macvicar retires after 34 years at MSP

Today, we’re saying goodbye to another of our long-serving members of staff, Plant & Store Supervisor David Macvicar, who is retiring from his role after more than 34 years of service with the company.

David started at McCreath Simpson & Prentice (MSP) in August 1987 after being interviewed by David McCreath, Jimmy Burns and Kathleen Park to work in the company’s Kelso store, looking after feed, agrochemicals and fertiliser.

When the company closed the Kelso store in 2000, David relocated to our Craigswalls grain store to run the feed plant there with Derek Brown. Then, in 2005, when the company outsourced the feed section, David moved further east to work at Berwick.

Initially, David worked in the seed department, but when the position of Top Shed Manager became available, he assumed that role and has played a key part in the success of the agrochemical side of the business to the present day.

Speaking about David’s service, Agrochemical & Technical Director David Cairns said: “When I first started working at the Kelso office as a junior rep 22 years ago, I remember spending a day in the feed shed with David and he was conscientious about doing the job right and I think all of us who have worked with David over the years relate to this.

“In our time at Berwick together, we’ve been a great team and it is well regarded in the company and by customers how accurate stocks have been and the service that David has provided. As agronomists, we walk fields, put orders in and then know that they will be delivered on time. Customers also appreciate this and I know some have spoken to David personally to thank him for his help over the years.

“To ensure the excellent service we provide is maintained, over the past few months, David has spent time mentoring his replacement, Martin Grieve, and we all wish Martin success in his new role.

“So, on behalf of myself and the company, I would like to thank David for his loyalty and excellent service to MSP and wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
