Fertiliser blends: Accuracy of MSP blends shown in lab analysis

At McCreath Simpson & Prentice, we're committed to supplying only the highest-quality, accurately formulated fertiliser to customers throughout our trading area and this commitment has recently been independently verified.

Independent fertiliser verification

The samples were sent to Salamon and Seaber, a UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited laboratory specialising in fertiliser analysis of both solid and liquid fertilisers for quality control purposes to ensure compliance with specifications, providing independent assurance to clients.

Sample results

The following fertiliser blends were analysed to standard protocols, with the results shown below validating their accuracy:

These results follow a significant £250,000 investment made in 2023 to install a state-of-the-art specific gravity screening system at our fertiliser blending plant in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

How does the screening system work?

The blended product passes over a vibrating screening system that allows any dust and lumps to be removed. This clean, dust and lump free product is then bagged consistent within the product specification size matched range.

Our team then sample and seal each bag before it gets stored in one of our sheds, ready for delivery. Meanwhile, the unwanted material is transported down chutes into waste bags, to be sold as ‘out of specification’ product.

What are the benefits?

This specific gravity screening system significantly improves product quality by removing lumps and dust, with benefits including:

Reduced risk of bag set and hardness: Limits the risk of hard product and large lumps when emptying bags loading the spreader which saves time and reduces product loss.

Accurate application: Eliminating dust and lumps increases consistency of size range, aiding spreader calibration and accurate spread patterns, maximising crop yield.

Saving of time and money: Free flowing fertiliser reduces loading and handling times, which in turn increases spreading time and hectares covered, increasing efficiency and reducing cost.
