Cereal seed

Oats are a low input break crop and perform best on lighter soils, while they have also been proven to reduce diseases in soil, subsequently boosting soil health.
At McCreath Simpson & Prentice, we can offer seed for both winter and spring oat varieties, working closely with the UK’s leading plant breeders to supply varieties that excel on milling quality, which is considered more important than overall yield.
Our winter oat varieties

Cromwell
Cromwell is a winter husked oat with great milling potential that was added to the AHDB Recommended List in 2023. It combines high yields, excellent kernel content and specific weight, high hullability and short, exceptionally stiff straw.

Dalguise
Dalguise is a high yielding, consistent variety with an excellent specific weight and high kernel content – the latter of which is the highest of the husked varieties on the AHDB Recommended List. All of these factors, as well as the early maturity, continue to ensure its popularity on farm and with the millers.
Our spring oat varieties

CANYON
Canyon is a spring oat variety with good grain quality, making it suitable for a range of end markets, including milling for human consumption and animal feed. It has fantastic resistance to mildew and is slightly earlier to mature than other spring oat varieties.

WPB ELYANN
WPB Elyann offers good yields and the second highest kernel content of any spring oat variety on the AHDB Recommended List. Not only that, but it is also earlier to mature than other varieties on the RL. WPB Elyann has wide market appeal with the right attributes for the milling market.
